PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a LAN interface apparatus for realizing automatic setting of a communication system as well as that of a transmission rate and further that of a connection system, so as to eliminate the need of settings by a user for connecting to the network. SOLUTION: The LAN interface apparatus 10 includes: a link state detection section 11 for monitoring a present link state with respect to an access destination to detect linkup, link-down and collision; a transmission rate setting section 12 with a setting switching function between the 10 Mbps (10BASE-T) and the 100 Mbps (100BASE-TX); a connection system setting section 13 with a setting switching function between a straight connection and a cross connection; a communication system setting section 14 with a setting switching function between the full duplex and the half duplex; and a setting control section 15 for controlling the sections above.
