PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stirling engine for suppressing energy losses and reducing a cost, and a storage chamber such as a refrigerator using the stirling engine. SOLUTION: In this stirling engine 40 comprising a cylinder 3 with a working medium sealed therein, and a piston 1 and a displacer 2 which are slidably fitted in the cylinder 3 and juxtaposed in the axial direction, and forming a compression space 9 and an expansion space 10 in the cylinder 3 by the reciprocal motion of the piston 1 and the displacer 2, an outer circumferential surface of the piston 1 has a first outer circumferential surface 1b subjected to precision machining such as polishing, and a second outer circumferential surface 1c which is not subjected to any precision machining.
