The tubular furnace has a tube (1) with several spread out lower gas flow orifices (5) on the underneath of the tube sleeve and upper gas flow orifices (6) on the upper side of the sleeve. The orifices are divided into at least two groups whereby in the region of at least one of these groups a gas-tight space (11, 12) is formed outside the tube. The interior of this gas tight space is connected by the orifices to the inner space of the tube. The underneath of the tube is enclosed by a gas tight sleeve (11) and the top side by a second spaced gas tight sleeve (12).The combustible material is moved in the longitudinal direction through the tube by a delivery device such as a worm screw (4).
