PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester which is freed from the drawback of thermal properties (the narrowness of the scope of application to moldings or films due to the lowness of a glass transition temperature and of a melting point) as seen in a conventional polyester and the drawback of chargeability and having performances satisfactory for especially a charge controller and to provide its application. SOLUTION: There are provided a polyhydroxyalkanoate containing at least one unit selected from the group consisting of units (1), (2), (3) and (4) in the image; and a method for producing the same; and application of the same to e.g., a charge controller. In the image, R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>6</SB>are each OH, a halogen atom, ONa, OK, OCH<SB>3</SB>, or OC<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>; R'<SB>1</SB>to R'<SB>5</SB>are each a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; A<SB>1</SB>and J<SB>6</SB>are each a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbon structure; m and n are each an integer in the range of 0-7; and r is an integer in the range of 1-500, provided that when a plurality of units are present, R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>6</SB>, R'<SB>1</SB>to R'<SB>5</SB>, A<SB>1</SB>, J<SB>6</SB>, m, n, and r are as defined above and are independent in every unit.
