PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce operation processes by not only transmitting an image but also outputting image data with its transmitting destination and to improve portability and operability by managing the image and the transmission and reception destinations of the image together. SOLUTION: An image pickup unit 100 is provided with an imaging device 14 for converting an optical image to an electrical signal. A recording medium 300 is provided with a recording element 301 capable of recording a large quantity of information. A processing unit 200 is provided with an output device 106 having an image display device, an operation apparatus 108 and a communication control circuit 110, controls the image pickup unit 100 in accordance with the operation and setting condition of the operation apparatus 108, and supplies photographic image information from the image pickup unit 100 to the recording medium 300. A control circuit 102 gives preference to image pickup by means of the image pickup unit 100 over communication by the communication control circuit 110 in an image pickup preference mode, and gives preference to the communication in a communication preference mode. The image pickup unit 100 is attachable to and detachable from the processing unit 200. The recording medium 300 is attachable to and detachable from the processing unit 200. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
