PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element capable of emitting light with high luminance, and a light emitting element capable of emitting light with high luminance, excellent in red color purity and also excellent in durability. SOLUTION: In this light emitting element, a light emitting layer or a plurality of organic layers containing the light emitting layer are formed between a pair of electrodes, and this light emitting element contains a first light emitting material expressed by (chemical formula 1) and a second light emitting material capable of emitting a short wave from the first light emitting material. In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>each express an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, an aryl group or heterocyclic ring. R<SB>3</SB>, R<SB>4</SB>, and R<SB>4</SB>each express a hydrogen atom or its substituent. L expresses a linking group comprising a conjugated bond, and R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and L may form a ring by joining. Y expresses an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom and N-R<SP>Y1</SP>, and R<SP>Y1</SP>expresses a hydrogen atom or its substituent.
