PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably perform observer control also in seeking and following in the control method and control apparatus of a disk unit, using eccentricity estimation observer control. SOLUTION: The control apparatus comprises a head 3 for reading information in a disk storage medium 2; an actuator 5 for moving the head 3; and a control circuit 8 for calculating a control signal for driving the actuator 5, based on a position signal read from the disk storage medium 2 by eccentricity estimation observer control, including the model of the actuator 5 and that of eccentricity. The control circuit 8 selects a first eccentricity estimation gain om seek control and selects a second eccentricity estimation gain at following control time. The control circuit 8 stores the estimation eccentricity signal to the head, before switching to a memory, reads the estimation eccentricity signal to the head to be switched to, sets the read estimation eccentricity signal as an initial value, and performs eccentricity estimation observer control.
