PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the space-saving of a pickling plant by altering/setting the effective length of the section of a belt-like or wire-like member to be pickled. SOLUTION: This apparatus for pickling the belt-like or wire-like member is provided with mechanisms 2, 5, 7 for guiding the member 1 to be pickled so that the member 1 is formed into several loops having vertical sections 4, 6 and another mechanism 11 for bringing the member 1 into contact with a pickling liquid 9. At least two vertical pickling cells 3, 3a are arranged for altering/setting the effective length of the section of the member 1 to be pickled with high precision so that the pure chemical pickling operation can be performed and the pickling effect can be altered/set precisely and for attaining the space-saving of the pickling plant. The cells 3, 3a are arranged so that the correspondent sections 4, 6 of the member 1 can be pickled. Each of these cells 3, 3a can selectively be switched independently to the operation state or the non-operation state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
