<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support for a planographic printing plate excellent in both of scratch resistance and sensitivity and also excellent in anti-staining properties and printing durability at the time of printing, and an original plate for the planographic printing plate using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The support for the planographic printing plate is obtained by applying surface roughening treatment which includes two or more electrochemical surface roughening treatments using an electrolyte based on different acids, to an aluminum or aluminum alloy plate of which the maximum height Ry is 0.5-3.0 μm and has a surface wherein a ratio (Ry'/Ry) of the maximum height Ry' after the surface roughening treatment of the support to the maximum height Ry before the surface roughening treatment is 1.2-5.0.
