<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf ball including layers containing a nanosheet of exfoliated graphite in a polymer network. <P>SOLUTION: The exfoliated graphite is that in which atoms or molecules are inserted in the space between layered planes of carbon preferably in an oxidization step and thickness is expanded by exposing to a high temperature for a short time. Subsequently the expanded or exfoliated graphite is blended with a monomer and is immediately polymerized to manufacture a polymer having the network of the nanosheet of the dispersed exfoliated graphite. The stripping graphite holds the nanostructure during a polymerization process. The obtained layers of the golf ball including the polymer having the nanosheet of the exfoliated graphite shows outstanding tensile strength, low gas permeability, and reinforced impact strength. The golf ball including a steam barrier layer including the compressed exfoliated graphite layer is also provided. The expanded or exfoliated graphite is compressed to give a flexible thin sheet or foil. These sheets may be manufactured with a polymer binder. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
