<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automobile operation assisting device capable of maintaining high traveling safety and comfortability. <P>SOLUTION: The automobile operation assisting device is characterized in being equipped with a traveling position detecting device 42 for detecting a traveling position (ΔY<SB>ist</SB>) of a vehicle in regard to the border of a traveling lane, a torque control device 26 for outputting a steering operation torque command B for assisting a steering operation of a driver according to the comparison between the traveling position (ΔY<SB>ist</SB>) and a target position (ΔY<SB>soll</SB>) which is a traveling target, an operation detecting device 44 for detecting a predetermined operation by the driver, and a mode switching device 40 for switching an operation mode of the device when at least one of the predetermined operations by the driver is detected.
