PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator for an air bag for a front passenger seat that can supply gas to the air bag with the best timing for requiring reaction most for the restraint of an occupant to be protected.

SOLUTION: This gas generator for the air bag comprises a housing with one or more gas exhaust ports; an ignition means actuated by impact; and a gas generating agent molding ignited by the ignition means to burn and generate combustion gas. The gas generator has a gas discharge characteristic in which the ratio of area after 30 msec to the total area of mass flow curve is about 25% or more.
