<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten not only the luminance of the side opposite to an incident plane but also the luminance of the total light-emitting plane. <P>SOLUTION: In a backlight of a liquid crystal display element provided with a light guide plate 10 which is disposed on the non-observer's side of the liquid crystal display element and of which the specified side face is made to be the incident plane 11 and a light source 20 irradiating the incident plane 11 of the light guide plate 10 with light, an optical axis 21c of the light source 20 is made to hit a top edge 14a of the side 14 opposite to the incident plane of the light guide plate 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
