PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain correct picture data in a digital picture reading device to be used for information equipment and an OA apparatus, etc. SOLUTION: Errors on a temporal axis and a frequency axis are obtained by reading a test chart. The first error as the one on the temporal axis, a first error main cause as the main cause of the first error, the second error as the one on the frequency axis, and a second error main cause as the main cause of the second error are respectively and previously stored in a first database. Thereafter an original and a picture are read, from this reading data are obtained on the temporal axis and frequency axis, a corresponding relation between the first error and the first error main cause and a corresponding relation between the second error and the second error main cause are obtained from the above reading. Then the corresponding first and second error main causes are picked-up, and a correction algorithm is performed to cancel the errors in picture data based on the picked-up first and second error main causes.
