PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new diaminodicarboxylic acid and its salt, a carbamoyl compound and an isocyanate compound being its synthetic intermediate and to provide a method for producing the diaminodicarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: The new diaminodicarboxylic acid is represented by formula (1) (A is a 2-20C tetrafunctional aliphatic group and may contain at least one selected from a halogen atom, an oxygen atom and a sulfur atom; one of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>is a carboxy group and the other is an amino group, a carbamoyl group or an isocyanato group; one of R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>is a carboxy group and the other is an amino group, a carbamoyl group or an isocyanate group). The new diaminodicarboxylic acid represented by formula (1) is produced by reacting an acid dianhydride represented by the formula with ammonia and subjecting the reaction product to Hofmann rearrangement.
