PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure detection accuracy in optically detecting a type of a recorded medium. SOLUTION: A part of a member for supporting an optical sensor is pressed on a paper surface by a spring to constantly maintain an interval between the sensor and the paper surface. Thereby, a recorder without false detection irrespective of a remaining paper can be provided. Furthermore, false detection caused by disturbance light can be prevented by abutting a part of a light shielding hood on the paper. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
