PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve SN ratio, and the like, of a detecting signal while suppressing the enlargement of a device and the increase in the cost in an optical detection type ultrasonic receiver. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic receiver is provided with a light source 11 producing a broad-band light, an ultrasonic detecting element 20 including an ultrasonic sensitive part which is extended/contracted according to the received ultrasonic wave, allows an optical reflectance to fluctuate according to the extension/contraction, and modulates the intensity of the light produced by the light source, a spectral diffraction element 15 spectrally diffracting the light whose intensity is modulated by the ultrasonic detecting element, a photodetector 16 having a plurality of photoelectric transducers detecting the light spectrally diffracted by the spectral diffraction element for every plurality of wavelength components and producing, at least, a first detecting signal obtained by detecting a first wavelength component and a second detecting signal obtained by detecting a second wavelength component, and an arithmetic processing part 56 arithmetically processing using the first and second detecting signals and finding information on the ultrasonic wave received by the ultrasonic detecting element.
