The pressure limiting valve has a valve spring and spring plate (16) in a valve housing (2). Between the valve piston (10) and spring plate is a damping chamber (15) which is associated with an intermediate member (12) guided in an axial bore (11). The intermediate member has a blind bore (19) which is connected to cross bores (13, 14) and which has an insert ram (20) which is movable a restricted amount in the damping chamber (15). An O-ring (32) which seals against the outside wall (30) of the spring plate ram (18) is associated with the axial bore on the spring chamber side.
