Quality control in open water, especially in controlling acid transfer in sulfate- and iron-containing interconnected pools left after cessation of open-cast mining, involves establishing a colmation (clogging) wall and another (reaction) wall. Quality control in open water, especially in controlling acid transfer in sulfate- and iron-containing interconnected pools left after cessation of open-cast mining, involves establishing a colmation (clogging) wall and a reaction wall at the edges and slopes of the inlet and/or outlet of the pool using a water-active substrate material suspension at 1-40 wt.% with a floating or position- variable transfer unit. The colmation wall has an active substrate amount of active substrate of 1-100 kg/m2> with an uncalcined dolomite content of above 50% and a content above 40% of particle size below 0.1% (sic : mm). There is also a reaction wall with an active substrate amount of 1-200 kg/m2> and a fraction of above 50% calcined dolomite with below 30% of size below 0.1 mm and above 25% of size above 1 mm, the total content of calcium oxide and calcium carbonate being below 65% and of magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate above 25%.
