The preparation of fertiliser (I) from organic material, especially chicken droppings, is new and comprises conversion of the chicken droppings using a culture of micro-organisms in a continual process in which there is a steady in-feed of unconverted droppings. During the conversion process, the droppings are exposed to a continual supply of dry air at a given temperature. The gas is fed first to the droppings whose conversion has progressed the furthest and are cooling at about 45 degrees C, before passing towards the incoming unconverted droppings. The flow of gas is adjusted to optimize the formation of humus. An independent claim is also included for a device (II) for preparing fertiliser from chicken droppings.</p> |
