[Also in Division F2] In a centrifuge for treating a liquid suspen sion and comprising a rotor 1, Fig. 1, divided internally and adjacent its periphery by partitions 10 into a number of chambers 2, Fig. 2, for receiving the separated concentrated fraction, discharge of this fraction is effected automatically by separately operated resilient valves 4 controlled via conduits 11 by regulating liquid contained in a common chamber 12 formed in the rotor. The valves 4 are so constructed and located in the chambers 2 that, after a certain amount of concentrated fraction has accumulated in the chambers, they undergo lateral deformation thereby causing temporary opening of jets 3 for discharging the concentrated fraction. Each valve, Fig. 3, has a main portion 6 from which depend flexible jaws 7 between which is located a valve stem 5, the assembly being enclosed in a rubber sleeve 9. The valve is located in the corresponding chamber 2 with two of its sides in watertight engagement with the walls of the partitions 10 and with the stem 5 normally closing the corresponding jet 3. The stem 5 controls the closing or opening of the corresponding jet 3 as the jaws expand or contract. The regulating liquid is supplied to the chamber 12 from a tank 18 via a control valve 19 and a central duct 15 in a stationary tubular member 13. The controlled liquid may be returned to the tank 18, depending on the pressure desired, by means of an annular paring member 14 mounted on the member 13 and communicating via an annular duct 16 in the member 13 and a control valve 20 with the tank. A pressure gauge is provided at 17. The suspension is fed through a central duct in a tubular member 22 and the clear fraction is discharged via a paring member connected to an annular duct in the member 22. |
