<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can reduce the power consumption in removing electric charges accumulated in a transfer conveying belt by applying a transfer voltage. <P>SOLUTION: An electrostatic discharging control means 17 decides whether electric charges accumulated in the transfer conveying belt 216 to which the transfer voltage is applied by a transfer roller 225 is to be removed and energizes an electrostatic discharging roller 12a with a high-voltage power source 16 when deciding that the electrostatic discharging process is necessary. Further, the electrostatic discharging control means 17 actuates a solenoid 11 as needed to separate the electrostatic discharging roller 12a from the transfer conveying belt 216. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
