<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document managing system which automatically selects user information on a user and the data format of a document suitable for the use state of the document and enables the user to easily obtain the document, without the user being aware of the data format of the document, and to operate. <P>SOLUTION: The data format of the document to be processed, which is required by the user, is specified based on terminal information, the user information, bibliographical information, the state of the document, the history of operation and so on, and a document of adequate data format is fetched from the document managing system to display on a terminal on the user's side. When the document of adequate data format does not exist, a document of inadequate data format is converted into adequate data format, to display on the user terminal.
