PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for checking the condition of a ballot paper sorting device capable of assisting a user in determining whether or not cleaning, adjustments, etc., are required for the ballot paper sorting device by checking the condition of the device's optical system, etc. SOLUTION: The ballot paper sorting device is made to read a plurality of test paper sheets and an image input part 11 obtains images derived from the reading. An image processing part 12 obtains binary images and accumulates the images in a pixel value addition memory 16.
