<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polyester which gives a molded article excellent in mechanical strengths, such as tensile and flexural strengths, heat resistance in terms of e.g. heat distortion temperature, and impact strength. <P>SOLUTION: The aromatic polyester is obtained by acylating the phenolic hydroxy groups of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (1) and hydroquinone (2) with a fatty acid anhydride to give an acylated material, and then subjecting the acylated material, terephthalic acid (3), and 2, 6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (4) to polycondensation, wherein the acylation and/or the polycondensation is performed in the presence of a heterocyclic organic base compound containing two or more nitrogen atoms. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
