PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new non-enveloping approach for solubilizing nanotubes, such as carbon nanotubes, in an organic solvent and an inorganic solvent. SOLUTION: According to an embodiment of the invention, the surface of a carbon nanotube is functionalized in a non-enveloping mode by a functional conjugated polymer having functional groups for solubilizing a nanotube of this kind. Various embodiments provide a polymer which is non-covalently bonded to a carbon nanotube in a non-enveloping mode. For example, there are provided various embodiments each containing a carbon nanotube and a polymer having a relatively rigid skeletal structure suitable for being non-covalently bonded thereto, not around the diameter of the nanotube but substantially in its longitudinal direction. In the case of a preferable polymer, the interaction between the polymer skeletal structure and the nanotube surface is parallelπ-stacking. The polymer further contains at least one functional part, which is one of various desired functional groups suitable for solubilizing a carbon nanotube, as an extension part of the skeletal structure.
