PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device (optical switch) suitable for the miniaturization of the device and the high density integration of an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: An insertion plate M is held by a plate type cantilever equipped with an electrical wiring, and a plate type magnet is arranged to be opposed to the surface of the cantilever on an opposite side to the surface thereof on the optical waveguide 72 side, and a current flowing to the electrical wiring is controlled in such a state, and the cantilever is displaced by Lorentz's force based on relative action between the current and magnetic field so as to drive the insertion plate M. By making the insertion plate M get in/out of a slit S provided in the optical waveguide 72 while moving it up and down, the optical path of signal light is switched or the quantity of the light beam is adjusted. Then, the magnet is set to have such size and shape that a projected image onto the optical waveguide 72 from a perpendicular direction is on the plane of the optical waveguide 72 or is arranged so that the elongation direction of the line part of a contour projected onto the optical waveguide from the perpendicular direction may not be orthogonal to a magnetic field direction generated by the magnet.
