PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method to detect scene lighting, and to discriminate differences for correcting white balance being the factor of color temperature change in the grade of each scene lighting. SOLUTION: This method for adjusting the color characteristics of a digital image comprises a step for receiving a digital image including a plurality of pixels, a step for receiving non-pixel data relevant to camera capture parameters including a stop value, an exposure time value, and a speed value specific to the received digital image, a step for using the stop value, the exposure time, and the speed value for calculating a scene luminance value, and a step for using a scene luminance value calculated for adjusting the color of the digital image.
