PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cushion member, which is attached to a vehicle guard fence for increasing impact absorbency without hindering traffic, and of which the production cost is low. SOLUTION: A cushion member 20 is attached to a vehicle guard fence made of guard rails 14 hung over posts 13 erected at a road shoulder, and also attachable even after the completion of guard fence construction. This cushion member 20 consists of an elastic column-shaped block 21 nearly rectangular in section and differing in lateral and vertical lengths. A longer side surface thereof is used as the front and back surfaces 22 and 23 facing a road surface 15, a lateral groove 31 where a guard rail 14 fits in is formed along the corner line 28 between the top surface 27 and the front surface, and a vertical groove 32 where a post 13 fits in is formed at the back. As the cushion member is made of a single piece, its production cost is reduced. The cushion material is thicker in the direction parallel with lanes, and this thicker part receives vehicles, etc. sliding sideways off their running direction. This increases impact absorbency.
