Apparatus for sealing a gas exhaust pipe and for scrubbing gases issuing therefrom comprises, a sealpot 40 containing liquid, a gas inlet 21 dipping below the liquid and terminating in a gas diffuser 25, a gas outlet 27, a tank 28 continuously supplied with liquid to maintain a level therein above the lower end of the gas inlet pipe 21 and supplying liquid to the sealpot through a passageway 30, and a liquid overflow pipe 35 through which liquid is continuously withdrawn from the sealpot. The lower end of the pipe 35 dips into liquid in a vessel 36, vessel 36 having a liquid overflow pipe 38. |
