An orthopedic swivel screw (1) comprises a threaded shaft (4) and a tissue retainer (2), which elements are held together by a swivel joint. By virtue of its design, the swivel screw can be installed into a bore (16) in a bone (21) by turning and either pushing or pulling the treaded (4) shaft with a tool. Use of the swivel screw (4) for repair of the ACL, in particular ligament replacement, eliminates or at least minimizes the twisting that typically occurs during conventional ACL repair surgery. In addition, tension of the ligament graft can be precisely adjusted by using the swivel screw in combination with a tension-adjusting device (5) such as a split-nut fastener or a tension bolt (9). |
