A magnetic head (1) is structured by laying on a substrate (2) two return path yokes (8a, 8b) and two coils (6a, 6b) so as to sandwich a main magnetic pole (4), polishing an end face extending along the laying direction so as to form an opposing face (12), and forming an auxiliary yoke (10) on the opposing face (12). The auxiliary yoke (10) has a rectangular opening for exposing a tip end face (4a) of the main magnetic pole (4) to the opposing face (12). An end face (10a) of the opening is opposed to the main magnetic pole (4) in a non-contact state with predetermined spacing.
