摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Mach-Zehnder waveguide type electrooptics light intensity modulator which is driven with lower power and voltage than those of a conventional type device. <P>SOLUTION: Polarization reversing structures 1 and 2 are so manufactured that the parts which correspond to respective optical paths have a self-generative polarization reversed to each other on two optical paths 3A and 3B constituting a Mach-Zehnder waveguide. Further, a structure is adopted in which a push-pull type symmetric coplanar structure traveling wave electrode is so arranged that both ground electrodes 4A and 4C are located precisely above the optical path. Thus, an effective electrode gap is made a half that of a conventional type optical modulator, thereby obtaining an optical modulator which is driven with a quarter power. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p>
