The invention comprises Y-keto acid tetra-hydro-2-pyranyl esters of formula in which each of R and R1 is a hydrogen atom or a C1- 8 alkyl radical, in particular, tetra-hydro-2 -pyranyl levulinate, and the preparation thereof by treating a Y-keto acid R1-CO-CH2-CHR-COOH with dihydropyran under acidic conditions. They are used as intermediates in the preparation of tetrahydro-2-pyranyl esters of a -(3-indoylyl) aliphatic acids.
