<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device with a monitoring unit and its operation method. <P>SOLUTION: This device has a monitoring unit for monitoring combustible gases, in particular, hydrogen. The device allows the monitoring unit to be connected to a current/voltage supply source and a wake-up apparatus is provided which is connected to the supply source and capable of switching the monitoring unit from a resting state to an active state after a designated time interval. The device can be used in fuel cell systems, transport means, and automobiles in particular.
