A structural element of metal or plastics comprises a tube 1 of elongated diamond cross-section having the acute angles truncated and closed by webs 4, 5 and having coplanar flanges 6a 6b extending from the obtuse angles. Diverging flanges 10a, 10b extend from one web 5 symmetrical with the adjacent half of the tube and having at their edges angled flanges 11a, 11b which may be joined together. The flanges 6a, 6b have on their edges angled flanges 7a, 7b intermediate flanges 9a, 9b. The element is extruded &c. or made up of two or three parts. Two elements are joined at right angles by an L-shaped member, Fig. 4 fitting in the tubes 1 and between the flanges 10a, 10b and having teeth g, h to prevent withdrawal. Similar joining members may be used to connect the parts forming a structural element. A flat roof comprises a frame made of the structural elements and supporting slabs 122, 125 Fig. 5 by means of clips 124, 127 and sealing strips 123, 126 on the flanges of the elements. Rain may be drained through the elements as shown by arrow f2. A wall comprises slabs 127, 128, 130, 132 and 133 Fig. 6 mounted by means of clips 127a, 128a, 129, 134 and 135 on the flanges of elements forming the wall frames. |
