PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali storage battery capable of restraining increase of internal resistance when left in a high temperature by restraining a hydrogen absorbing alloy from the solution reaction with electrolyte liquid. SOLUTION: For the alkali storage battery, rare earth element is contained in an A-site with AB<SB>5</SB>type crystal structure, and not less than 50 mass% and not more than 80 mass% of La is contained in 100 mass% of the rare earth element, and the elements contained in a B-site with AB<SB>5</SB>type crystal structure is mainly composed of Ni, and at least the Ni is partially replaced by Co and Mn. The replacing amount of the Mn is not less than 0.2 mol and not more than 0.5 mol to 1 mol of total rare earth element. The alkali storage battery comprises a negative electrode containing the hydrogen absorbing alloy as the negative electrode active material of which, number of moles of total element of B-site against 1 mol of total rare earth element at A-site of AB<SB>5</SB>type crystal structure is not less than 5.2 mol and not more than 5.5 mol.
