[Also in Division F2] In an electric motor having a friction brake operated by axial movement of a braking member 5 fixed to the motor rotor R and axially slidable therewith as a unit along the motor shaft 1, the unit is urged towards the braking position by a resilient biasing means, e.g. one or more springs 2a, and in the opposite direction by an adjustable resilient biasing means, e.g. a spring 9 whose pressure magnitude is adjustable, e.g. by a screw 11 up to and equal to that exerted by the means 2a so that the motor can also be operated as an ordinary electric motor, with the brake disabled. As shown, the member 5 has a lining Bb engagable with bearing shield surface Bf, cooling air vanes Bl, and a rim Bm forming a rotary seal with the casing C; it is mounted on one 4 of two sleeves 3, 4 on which either the cylindrical or frustoconical rotor R slides along the shaft. The rotor torque is conveyed via the sleeve 3, pins 3a, and a spring housing 2 keyed to the shaft. synthetic rubber buffers 2c, 7a being interposed to dampen shocks. The brake disengagement is effected by energization of the stator S in the embodiment shown, or by a separate electromagnetic device in the case of a cylindrical rotor. In another embodiment, both springs are within a hollow shaft. |
