COLLECTING AGENT FOR GLASS FIBER YARN AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING GLASS FIBER YARN

A method for producing a glass fiber yarn to be used as a weft of a glass cloth, which comprises a strand formation step of collecting 200 to 800 glass filaments having an average diameter of 7 to 11 mum by the use of a collecting agent, to thereby form strands, and winding up the strands with a cake, and a twisting step of drawing the strands out of the cake and twisting them, characterized in that the collecting agent comprises a starch, a vegetable oil, a paraffin and an emulsifier containing at least an ether based emulsifier, wherein the ether based emulsifier is contained in an amount of 5 to 40 mass % relative to the total amount of the paraffin and the ether based emulsifier. A glass fiber yarn for use as a weft of a glass cloth produced by the method is free from the formation of fluffs, and also is excellent with respect to the easiness in the transfer with air during air-jet weaving.
