<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new protein having activity for inhibiting differentiation and maturation of osteoclast or an osteoclastogenesis inhibiting factor, and to provide a method for producing the protein. <P>SOLUTION: This new protein having the activity for inhibiting the differentiation and/or the maturation of the osteoclast is produced from human fetal pulmonary fibroblast, wherein the protein has a molecular weight of about 60 KD when measured under a reduction condition and about 120 KD when measured under a non-reduction condition. The method for producing the protein includes a process for isolating the protein from a culture solution of the fibroblast and purifying the isolated protein. Further, the protein is produced in a genetic engineering manner. A cDNA for producing the protein in the genetic engineering manner, an antibody having specific affinity for the protein, and a method for measuring the protein in which the antibody is used are provided in the specification, respectively. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
