DATA COMPRESSION DEVICE AND ITS METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of errors in multi-generation and/or to reduce variation when similar materials are quantized.

SOLUTION: The data compression device for compressing input data on the basis of a prescribed target output data quantity by performing data quantization at a degree of quantization taken from a set of available degrees of quantization comprises one or more trial quantizers for performing trial quantization at each trial quantization degree extracted from a subset of the set of available degrees of quantization, a selector for selecting a final degree of quantization satisfying a condition that target output data quantity is not exceeded from the set of available degrees of quantization in accordance with the results of the trial quantizers and a final quantizer for quantizing the input data at the final degree of quantization.
