PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enhanced accuracy in dimensions required for cutting operation of a cutting insert. SOLUTION: The cutting insert is manufactured from fine particles through press molding, sintering and polishing. This insert contains a top chip face, a bottom face and at least one outside edge face extending between both faces of the top chip and the bottom. The outside edge face includes a flank saliently intersecting with the top chip face to form a cutting blade between both these faces. An undersurface part below the flank of the outside edge face is created through the above polishing. This polishedd face provides a contacting surface to be contacted against a machine tool for fixing of the insert. Thus high-precision requisite dimensions can be ensured without damaging any insert area related to cutting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
