PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device capable of uniformizing the brightness of a display screen and reducing the influence of stripe-shaped noise on the screen. SOLUTION: The picture display device is provided with a transmission part 43 at the reflection part 44 of a spatial filter 25 so as to make a diffracted light beam having an order different from±1st order light beams 28a and 28c used for display, desirably, a zero-th order light beam 28b pass and include it in the light beam for display, whereby the brightness of the display screen at least in a dark state on a screen 27 is uniformized and the stripe-shaped noise is hardly observed.
