PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capping device which can seal and open without breaking a meniscus of a recording head. SOLUTION: The capping device has a holder receiving member movable back and forth to a nozzle face of the recording head, a holder 60 whose one end side in a movement direction of a carriage holds one point on a center line and whose other end side holds the center line, two springs 61 and 62 having respective butting points made different in the height are supported by the holder receiving member and arranged via a distance in the movement direction of the carriage to urge the holder towards the recording head, and a cap held by the holder 60.
