PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a peptide or protein having modification such as acylation, saccharification and phosphorylation in high efficiency and purity. SOLUTION: The method for the production of a peptide or protein having a side chain containing modified amino acid residue comprises the chemical production of a peptide fragment having a side chain containing modified amino acid residue by using a weakly acidic releasable resin, the production of a peptide fragment free from a modified amino acid residue on the side chain by gene recombination method and/or enzymatic method, and the condensation of two kinds of the peptide fragments produced by the above methods.
