PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely feed sheets of paper one by one which are stacked and held in an inclined state without increasing back tension by using a separation pad system. SOLUTION: An idle roller 160 is made to abut on a separation pad by a roller spring 165 for generating energizing force smaller than a spring 156 of a separation pad 150 for separating the paper to be fed by a paper feeding roller 121 approximately D-shaped in side view from following paper so as to prevent decline of the following paper P2. The following paper P2 is returned on a hopper 103 by rotating a paper returning lever 180. The pad 150 and the idle roller 160 are separated in returning the paper. A regulation pin 141 for regulating upward movement of the separation pad 150 is provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
