The invention concerns a method for producing on a paper-making machine a sheet bearing an embossed design coated with a layer providing it with depth, in particular a leatherette finish or denim type appearance. The invention is characterized in that it comprises at least: a first step which consists in forming then in marking a support sheet by means of an embossing device; a second step which consists in coating at least one of the surfaces of the marked sheet with a layer using a coating device, selecting the viscosity of the applied coat and the pressure in the coating device such that the layer is preferably deposited either in the recesses, or on the embossed parts of the marked sheet.
