A portable data-carrier has an active electronic component (3), an electric connecting line (6) for activating the component (3), and a manually activated switch (4) on one edge (9) of the card. The switch (4) is provided as a perforation through the data carrier bordering on the two terminals (7,8) of the connecting line (6) and allows a part of the data carrier lying between the perforation (5) and the edge (9) to be shifted relative to another part adjacent to the perforation so that both terminals (7,8) electrically join the connecting line (6). An independent claim is given for a method of manufacturing a portable data carrier, especially an intelligent card.
