A method for fitting a rotor to a shaft with accurate rotational coupling and with axial freedom has a ring (2) with a sliding fit on the rotor and with sprung tags (5) which are pressed into axial grooves on the outside of the shaft. The grips and/or the shaft have a tapering cross section to align the connection without any rotational play. The ring has mounting holes (4) and tags (3) with further mounting holes to mount selected fittings.
