PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture tube apparatus with a high resolution having a cold cathode electron gun. SOLUTION: This picture tube apparatus comprises a cathode 100 and the cold cathode electron gun having a peripheral focusing electrode 101 and an accelerating electrode. The cathode 100 is formed by connecting an emitter electrode 100a to a gate electrode 100c through an insulation layer 100b. A potential difference across the gate electrode 100c and the emitter electrode 100a is 60 V, a potential difference across the peripheral focusing electrode 101 and the emitter electrode is 0 V, and a potential difference across the accelerating electrode 102 and the emitter electrode is 4.6 kV.
